Convent booked for 2009!
Thanks to Rob for filming and editing this video from 2008.
Are you wondering why we are having the event on the 1st of November instead of the last Sunday in October like previous years? World Vegan Day is actually the 1st of November but we have the event on the previous Sunday as it would be difficult to have it during the week and it is far easier for people to attend during the weekend. Well every few years, November the 1st falls on a Sunday, and 2009 it is. So book it into your calendar, write it on the wall, yell it from the roof tops, tell everyone, your friends, neighbors, people at work, cats, dogs and anyone else.
We had a meeting with the Convent Management and they were really happy with the way we ran the event, and they had no problems with us at all.
It came as a bit of a shock to them, when straight after the meeting we asked them to book World Vegan Day Melbourne in for the Convent for next year.
So it is now confirmed: 2009 World Vegan Day Melbourne will be held at The Convent in Abbotsford on Sunday the 1st of November 2009. This gives everyone a full years notice, so grab a pen and mark in your diaries.
World Vegan Day Melbourne 2008 will be held at the Convent in Abbotsford, 1 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford, on Sunday the 26th of October between 10am and 5pm.
After listening to your suggestions to have a more central location, we have chosen a place close to the CBD that also has plenty of open space and some exquisite gardens. The Rosina building that will house many of the indoor stalls for WVD is exactly 100 years old and is one of the few examples of European Baroque Revival style still existing in Victoria. To learn more about this extraordinary venue, visit www.abbotsfordconvent.com.au
As usual entry is free and there will be plenty of Vegan stalls providing fantastic food, clothing, footwear, health products, organic vegan wines, cruelty free skincare and cosmetics, pet care, cleaning products and lots more. There will be live bands, free samples and giveaways, raffle prizes, workshops on Vegan cooking and raw food, talks on health and the environment, speed dating, and much, much more.
As the venue has buses going past Clarke Street every 15 minutes, and with Victoria Park Train Station 12 minutes walking distance away, we suggest leaving your petrol guzzler at home. You may even want to ride your bike to the venue. For more details on public transport click here:
Everyone is welcome, and we encourage you to bring a non vegan friend. In fact this year there will be a major prize for the person that brings in the most non-vegan friends.
See you there!
See the transport and map page for details on how to get there.
Things are starting to ramp up and we need your help so if you can help out in any way drop us a line at and let us know what you can do.
