Aims

The core belief of WVD Melbourne is that it is a positive celebration of being vegan. It is a chance for vegans, those interested in the vegan way of life and all their friends to come together and enjoy themselves.

A side benefit of this is it promotes a healthy, fun, vegan lifestyle.

WVD Melbourne is distinctly Australian and has the strong support of the local vegan community and vegetarian sympathetic businesses.

WVD Melbourne history

World Vegan Day was started by The Vegan Society of the UK in 1994 to commemorate its 50th anniversary. Since then, in the UK and around the world, events of all types and sizes have been held on this day to celebrate everything that is positive about a vegan lifestyle.

WVD Melbourne started as an idea on veganlist in June 2003. Andrew spoke of getting some friends together for a picnic to celebrate the day. The idea bounced between Meghan and Andrew. Meghan took the big step to make it an event.

Meghan along with Mark D and Mark O from Vegans Unite! made up the core of WVD Melbourne 2003. Volunteers from Vegans Unite! and Vegetarian Network Victoria got involved to help make it all happen.
